Anyer
About
Anyer (also Anjer) is a town in Banten, formerly West Java, Indonesia, fifteen kilometres south of Merak. It is home to the Cikoneng Lighthouse built by Dutch government in 1885 as a memorial for the townspeople killed by the eruption of Krakatau, which completely destroyed the town as well as the earlier lighthouse.
It is also the starting point of the Great Post Road,
built by the Dutch in the nineteenth century, which ran 1,000
kilometres to the eastern tip of Java. Off the coast of Anyer is the
island Pulau Sangeang, an uninhabited island with vast areas of
untouched jungle. The area is also known for coral formations swarming
with tropical fish.
Anyer Beach is a tourist attraction with hot swimming water, a hotel
and rental of resting sheds, boats, four-wheeled motorcycles, water
scooter and a banana boat.
Recent (2011) plans are that the proposed Sunda Strait Bridge, an ambitious megaproject scheduled to start in 2014, will stretch from Anyer across the Sunda Strait to Lampung in South Sumatra.
Tourism
One interesting beach to visit near
Jakarta is Anyer Beach located 160 km about two hours drive from
Jakarta. It’s at Cilegon, Banten Province.
Wide open beach, waves, cries of sea
gulls, white sands, palms, mountainous view (part of Mount Krakatoa),
fresh air, and a lighthouse thrown in, are just the things found at
Anyer Beach to relax the mind.
Anyer, the town of Anyer Beach, was the starting point of The North Coast Road built by Dutch Governor General, Herman William Daendels in 1808, where his vessel called Virginia landed, before continuing on to Batavia (now Jakarta).
There are many recreational and sports
equipment available for rent at the beach at reasonable prices such as
bicycle, speedboat, surf board, and jetski. The beach is also a good
place for parasailing. Surf board rental is about Rp. 5,000 per day,
while jet ski is about Rp. 80,000 for 15 minutes.
Children play park and beach ball arena are also available. That’s why Anyer Beach is popular with families.
